VIN & history reports

What a vehicle history check is

Every car has a 17-character VIN (vehicle identification number), also called the chassis number. A vehicle history report uses the VIN to look up records that have been reported about the car, which can include past registrations, reported accidents or damage, odometer readings and service entries.

What a report contains depends on where the car has been registered and what was reported, so coverage varies from car to car.

We include a CARFAX vehicle history report (value AED 145) with every Premium inspection. We don't sell VIN lookups on their own: a history report is most useful alongside a physical inspection of the car.

History vs inspection

Two different questions

A history report tells you what has been recorded. An inspection tells you what condition the car is in now.

A history report can show

  • Reported accidents and damage records
  • Recorded odometer readings, which can reveal rollbacks
  • Registration and ownership records
  • Service entries, where they were reported

Only an inspection shows

  • Unreported repairs and repainted panels
  • Current wear on brakes, tyres and suspension
  • Leaks, rust and underbody damage
  • Stored fault codes and how the car drives today

How to find and check the VIN

Book Your Inspection
  1. 01

Find it on the registration card. The VIN is printed on the vehicle registration card (Mulkiya).

  2. 02

Compare it with the car. Check the VIN plate, usually at the base of the windscreen or on the driver's door pillar.

  3. 03

Match every character. The numbers must be identical, character for character.

  4. 04

Check the paperwork too. Service records should show the same VIN.

FAQ

Vehicle history questions

Can I get a CARFAX report on its own?

We include CARFAX with the Premium inspection rather than selling it separately.

Does a clean history report mean the car has no accident damage?

No. Only reported events appear. Repairs paid for privately may never be recorded, which is why we measure paint thickness on every panel during the inspection.

What is the difference between a VIN and a chassis number?

In the UAE the terms are usually used for the same 17-character identifier.
